In a remarkable feat to tackle a daunting passport backlog crisis in Nigeria, Nigeria’s Immigration Service (NIS) have cleared a staggering 60,000 applications in just four days.

This comes in response to a directive from Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, who had called for the clearance of over 200,000 pending passport applications within two weeks.

Evidence backed allegations had shrewd the operations of the Immigration service where quick passport issuance had become a means to make money by an artificial production material scarcity claim, which left citizens with no choice but to pay a premium to access their passports more quickly.

The minister expressed his commitment to resolving the passport crisis, describing it as a national embarrassment. As of now, nearly 60,000 applications have been successfully processed, demonstrating significant progress in meeting the two-week deadline.
